Dj C.R.Y Can't Reach Yoda but I might be the king of the Jungle....one day ?
Son of a sound boy, born a libra , love bass , birds and bikes...
During my early year one of my first memories of the reggae scene in Huddersfield, My Grandfather ran a night club , the world famous Venn St. In the largest town in Europe, I remember them preparing for Dennis Brown, back stage everyone was excited, unfortunately for as the doors begun to let the crowds in , it was time for me to head home to bed as I was still a toddler.
Around four years later as my love for music and sound system grow , my father Verse of Wadada sound system flew me out to his home land , my first trip to my second home of jamrock, the most beautiful island I have visited to date. We spent six weeks touring Jamiaca , visiting iconic sites where Bob Marley lived, where Sir Coxon played , Studio one cut dubplates, and most importantly where the rastas blaze the finest grade. One of my fondest memories is when we visited St. Thomas my families home.
I loved the ice cream in JA, so when I heard the van I quickly grabbed my spending money and ran as fast as my bare feet would carry me. As I ran around 10 kids from the village ran with me .... shout bumboclart this English boy is fast no backside .... lol as we raced for the ice cream van half a mile away. As I got to the cart and produced my English Sterling bumboclart said the ice cream man nah have enough change fi dat my yout , cry replied in a broken English accent how many ice creams me can get , only 7 my maths was not that good. "I'll buy all ulna man one" the iceman said we run go get ya cousins from miss Mary's and they can all get one. In the end I bought around 50 (i was only 7 so don't trust my maths.) ice cream for all the kids in the village and still got plenty change , yardie dollar ain't worth Brad pitt to these youngster living in poverty we were millionaires, little did they no in England we were not even rich .
A few days later it was Sunsplash a celebration of reggae music, a festival similar to Glastonbury but only featuring artist from black origins. All I can say is this was the best live music event in the best location on earth, and I was at world dance 1999 to 2004 and it didn't even come close to Sunsplash.
When we returned to England with dub pon cd, vinyl and wax, dad toured uk playing London, Birmingham, Nottingham to name but a few. Playing sound with Wadada. As I was still young , I was happy to stay at home with the technics and mission speakers happily blowing dads amps , fuses , valves, cones. Playing his system so loud it tripped the fuses in the amp from over heating. Aged around 10 , my old man had enough of me damaging equipment , he brought me my first system and help me build my first speaker box it was perfect in symmetry and sound , my first box contained my mid range and piezo tweeter, and my second box was my sub. By the time I hit high school, I had about ten speakers and more amps and equalizer than I can remember Sony, kenwood, technics, teac, etc.
I was begin to spend more time in BFD with my uncles Animal, Ranking and Fingers and cousins Bullybeef and RPS, they had a sound system, Conquering Lion they played dub and jungle, they where having a dance , and I was going... not just predance I was allowed to stay the night, me and bully put on our matching click suit and rolled this was the beginning of my love to be the king of the Jungle.
